Ivica Puljak, the Mayor of the City of Split, was born in 1969 in Split, Croatia. He is a prominent figure in both the scientific and political arenas.
Ivica Puljak’s educational journey began in 1997 when he earned his master’s degree in elementary particle physics from the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. His academic pursuits then led him to Paris, where he completed his doctoral studies at the prestigious Pierre and Marie Curie University in 2000. His dissertation was conducted in collaboration with Ecole polytechnique and CERN.
Throughout his career, Ivica Puljak has made remarkable contributions to the field of science, co-authoring more than 1000 scientific papers and actively engaging in over 600 science promotion and popularization activities.
Before assuming the role of Mayor, Ivica Puljak served as a tenured full professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Naval Architecture in Split since 1994. He has also been a visiting scientist at CERN in Geneva and a guest professor at Ecole polytechnique in Palaiseau, France.
